10 Photography Tips + Hacks!
Hi, it’s Carly and in today’s post I have some of my favorite and best tips to take better photos. Hopefully these will help you out whether you’re taking photos for your blog, Instagram or just for yourself!
1. Try Different Subject Arrangements
Taking a bunch of photos of different arrangements of the photo’s subjects is so helpful. I never know what’s going to look the best until I’m looking at the photos later so I like to try 3-5 different arrangements.
2. Don’t go Crazy With Editing
A huge tip, which could seem obvious but I wanted to include, is not to go crazy with editing! I recommend just adjusting a few things but not too much (whatever that means to you). The top is where I tried to make it as bright as possible but the bottom I just added a bit more exposure to it.
3. Background Ideas:
- Scrapbook Paper
- Wrapping Paper
- Contact Paper
- Clothes (small pieces)
4. Take a Lot of Photos at Once
You know when there is a day that just seems to have really good lighting? Whenever you have one of those days, try to take as many photos as possible and take advantage of that lighting.
5. Make Sure the Camera is in Focus
This may seem like literally the most basic tip ever but a lot of the time when I’ll be doing photos for a DIY I won’t make sure the photos are in focus after taking them and end up having to redo part of the DIY to the point to retake the photo.
6. Take Photos During the Day!
Another tip that might seem basic but has a huge effect is to always take photos in the daytime only. Another tip is if you need to get some photos but the indoor lighting isn’t working out, try going outside for the photos.
7. Best Times of Day for Photography
One of the key parts of getting good photos for me is by far the lighting. I find the best times to get that good lighting is not in direct sunlight so more of a just slightly cloudy day. The best time of day for me is midday to get the brightest photos.
8. Photo Acessories
- Fairy Lights
- Seasonal Decor
- Lace Ribbon
9. Have a Clean Background
Going along with my last tip, adding more to photos are great but the last thing you want to do is add too much! Keeping a clean and matching background is a big part of photos.
10. If no Table, Use a Box!
This is what I do whenever I take photos for a DIY; I put this box by the window, on top of my bed and snap all my photos!
I hope you enjoyed this post and the tips help you out! If you have any other photography tips, leave a comment sharing, I could always need more.
Have an awesome week!
